Hydro Facial or Microdermabrasion: How to Compare
Updated: Sep 22
Hydro Facial + LED and microdermabrasion both appear on the Skin House facial menu, but they are different appointments. One is not automatically better than the other. The useful comparison is the focus of each service, what is included, and whether it suits your current skin and goals.
Microdermabrasion focuses on surface exfoliation
Our microdermabrasion service combines cleansing, controlled surface exfoliation, hydration and finishing skincare. Someone interested in the appearance of dullness or uneven surface texture may want to ask about this option. The American Academy of Dermatology explains that microdermabrasion gently exfoliates the skin; it does not promise permanent results.
Temporary redness or sensitivity may occur. It is important to discuss your skin history, medicines and recent treatments before deciding whether exfoliation is appropriate. Do not select a facial on the assumption that more intense exfoliation produces a better result.
Hydro Facial + LED combines several steps
Our Hydro Facial + LED brings together cleansing, exfoliation, extraction when appropriate, hydration and LED light therapy. It may appeal to someone seeking a multi-step, hydration-focused facial. Confirm the actual products, device and steps rather than assuming that every similarly named treatment is the same branded service.
Suitability still matters. Tell your provider about irritation, allergies, medications, light sensitivity and recent procedures. Hydration-focused does not mean that no precautions are needed, and an LED session is not a guarantee of a particular outcome.
Compare the appointment, not just the name
Look at the current service descriptions and displayed price and duration. Ask what is included, what might be inappropriate for your skin and what aftercare you would need. Avoid choosing solely by a promotional photograph or a claim that one session will solve every concern.
Also distinguish cosmetic goals from medical needs. Persistent or painful acne, a new or changing skin concern, or an unexplained reaction should be discussed with an appropriate medical professional rather than treated as a reason to choose stronger exfoliation.
Three questions to help you decide
First, what is your main goal: surface exfoliation, a hydration-focused multi-step session, or simply cleansing and relaxation? Second, what is your skin tolerating right now? Third, do you have an event, other treatment or medication that should affect your plan? Your answers help frame a more useful conversation with the provider.
A European facial or an ultrasonic cleansing facial is another option on our menu. Asking about a simpler appointment is reasonable; there is no need to add a device-based service just because it is available.
